Swargajyoti Barooah

Swargajyoti Barooah ((アッサム語:স্বৰ্গজ্যোতি বৰুৱা)) was one of the first film actresses of Assamese Cinema. She acted as a child artist in the first Assamese film ''Joymati'' released in 1935. The film was produced and directed by the noted Assamese poet Jyoti Prasad Agarwala and starred Aideu Handique and acclaimed stage actor and playwright Phani Sarma. The film was shot between 1933 and 1935. Swargajyoti Barooah enacted the childhood character of ''Dalimi'' in the film.
She died young due to serious health problems. She was married to Tara Prasad Barooah〔http://www.google.co.in/search?tbm=bks&tbo=1&q=tara+prasad+barua&btnG=Search+Books〕 of Golaghat (an eminent lawyer of Assam, University Prize-man, Gold-medalist in English from Calcutta University and an alumnus of Scottish Church who was also one of the few Tamra-Patra recipient freedom fighters from Assam). Though her original surname was Datta she became more identified with her married name of Barooah.
